I will be exhibiting artwork from the Propagate Way series at St Werburghs Arts Trail in The Farm. The trail, which runs from 12-5pm on the 23-24 September, offers visual arts, music and more.
As Easter approaches it's time to wave farewell to the #WinterDrawingWindow series. The lunchtime and twilight plein air soirees have been a tonic for twinges of winter blues. I've loved drawing these scenes directly in Biro; it requires such confident mark making. Thank you to everyone who has liked or retweeted the posts. Now, we approach summer, I shall return to #RandomDemolitionSketches; a few of these have been selected for an exhibition by Paper Arts, Bristol.
As the nights draw in, I'm finding it difficult to trace the lines of the landscape and capture a scene before dusk. Until the turn of the Solstice, I will brighten my days with a new series called Winter-Drawing-Window. The collection will be generated during lunch breaks. This was the drawing today, captured from the tower at WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre. Do join in and post your creations to social media sites using the hashtag #WinterDrawingWindow. Through the months of September and October, I've been making studies of sites that feel fragile or threatened by demolition. I sought to capture buildings, vehicles and forms that may be nearing the end of their functional lifespan. My hasty drawings marked out obsolete and inanimate weathered shapes - detailing what might soon return to dust.
A collection of Môrafon's self-portraits created in 2004 make their debut, unearthed from a decade of solitude, to be shown at the exhibition curated by Philippa Bayley 'When death Comes'. Môrafon says, 'These drawings form part of a healing process, and represent inner-selves hidden within. These dream-scape characters, however bold and eerie, are all aspects of me.' The show is on at The Island until 11 October 2015. It explores narratives around dying and living. See the website for details. During August 2015, I have been taking part in a Drawing-a-Day challenge. A full month of lively line art captures dynamic perspectives of everyday patternation and form. My A5 images are drawn hastily, with no erasing, in 15-45 minutes. For print, repost or reproduction permission contact Morafon Studios ©Môrafon

PRESS RELEASE: Grass greener with Bristol green bridge Artist Môrafon hosts exhibition proposing new pedestrian crossing for M32 motorway. The Propagate Way Green Bridge show of art and installation is curated to campaign for improved crossing routes over the brutalist six lane gateway to the city. The exhibition at The Island Bristol is a free event running from 20th-28th June 2015 (open daily 10am-4pm) for Big Green Week. Môrafon says, 'To celebrate Bristol as European Green Capital this year, I am promoting the concept of a new crossing, similar to the park-scape link in Mile End, London. Since the turn of the Millennium a green route has been promoted by many, but in recent years the campaign has lost momentum. My work revives this ambition. A green bridge would combat unsafe crossing points and bring huge benefit to the wellbeing of the local community, economy and wildlife.' Gallery visitors can see Môrafon’s cinematic painted motorway canvases which recall a sense of mortality felt in day-to-day road crossings. New and archive works from Gina Briganti, Ted Clarke, Hannah Cox, Annie Lovejoy and Eleanor Shipman tell stories of the road through encapsulated wild landscapes, rivers of words, kaleidoscopic street soundscapes, painting, installation, dialogue and film. The artists seek to capture the imaginations of local communities, as well as establish an ongoing campaign, to realise the bridge as a viable and essential ambition for the future. ENDS FOR FURTHER INFORMATION: Contact Beth Môrafon Email: morafon@icloud.com PHOTOGRAPHY AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST NOTES TO EDITORS: The show is sponsored by Môrafon Studios and supported in kind by The Island, Bristol and N3 Display Graphics. It is promoted as a Big Green Week fringe event. EVENT LINK: http://biggreenweek.com/event/propagate-way-green-bridge-exhibition/ PRESS RELEASE
