PRESS RELEASE
Môrafon hosts exhibition proposing new pedestrian crossing for M32 motorway.
Propagate Way Green Bridge Exhibition at The Island Bristol is a free event, open daily 10am-4pm Sat 20th-Sun 28th June 2015 for Big Green Week. The show of art and installation is curated to campaign for improved crossing routes over the brutalist six lane gateway to the city.
Môrafon says 'To celebrate Bristol as European Green Capital this year I have independently sponsored Propagate Way Green Bridge exhibition. I am promoting the concept of a new crossing, similar to the park-scape link in Mile End London. Since the turn of the Millennium a green route has been promoted by many, but in recent years the campaign has lost momentum. My work reengages the ambition. A green bridge would combat unsafe crossing points and bring huge benefit to the wellbeing of the local community, its economy and wildlife.'
Gallery visitors can see Môrafon’s cinematic painted motorway canvases which recall a sense of mortality felt in day-to-day road crossings. New and archive works from Gina Briganti, Ted Clarke, Hannah Cox, Annie Lovejoy and Eleanor Shipman tell stories of the road through encapsulated wild landscapes, rivers of poem and word, kaleidoscopic street soundscapes, painting, installation, dialogue and film.
The artists capture the imaginations of local communities, as well as establish an ongoing campaign, to realise the bridge as a viable and essential ambition for the future.
The show is sponsored by Môrafon Studios and supported in kind by The Island, Bristol. It is promoted as a Big Green Week fringe event.
