Morton Pattison and Morafon Studios won the contract to deliver visuals and a general arrangement for Devon Wildlife Trust's newest and largest acquisition, Meeth Quarry. The former ball clay pits and container sheds have been reimagined as a natural play space, pump track and glamping area with a carpark, cafe and bike hire hub. The scheme is responsive to the sites heritage and materials, with native gorse planting, gabion walls and sleeper beds to soften the landscape. Large scale sculptures of native species such as long-tailed tit, broad-bodied chaser and hobby are included in the proposals, alongside a giant carving of an otter. This vast nature reserve can be found at the innermost tip of the Tarka Bike Trail, joining a network of bike paths that reach right to the coast.
The commission supports DWT's fundraising scheme allowing developments to be procured as funding is secured. To find out more about DWT Meeth Quarry visit here.
